By Dr.Raza Dungersi

Jamadi-ul-Awwal is the 5th Islamic Month. According to some sources, Hadhrat Fatima, Peace be upon her, passed away seventy five days after the passing away of the Prophet, Peace be upon him and his Progeny. As the Prophets day of 'wafat' was on the 28th of Safar, 11 A.H., the martydom of Hadhrat Fatima Peace be upon her, therefore must have occurred on the 13th, 14th, or 15th month of Jamadiul Awwal. However, other more authentic sources state that the 3rd of the month of Jamadiul Akher to be the day on which Hadhrat Fatima departed from this world. According to Late Ayatollah Mohsin Hakim, there is a lot of merit in observing day of mourning on all these occasions.

There are also sources that state that our 4th Imam Ali ibn Husain, Zainul Abeedin, was born on the 15th of this month, though a more reliable source places this date of birth on the 4th of the month of Shabaan. Also there are sources that put Hadhrat Zainab binte Ali's birth date on the 5th of this month.

Momineen are recommended to read Ziyarats of the above named personalities on their respective birth or death anniversary days.
